2016-2017 JR TRAINER: Weekend/School Year Option!
As we did this past summer, we are now enrolling a group of exceptional students who show high amounts of enthusiasm for horses! This is open to all Horsemanship and Lesson students. Those students will take part in the Junior Trainer Program, which will be split into two groups—one that will come on Saturday and or Sunday.
Just like our Summer Program, participants will be offered comprehensive insight into the life of someone who works with horses. This involves a lot more than just mucking stalls—the students will learn the ins and outs of feeding, grooming, barn maintenance, and show preparation, as well as a unique opportunity to participate in and learn about the process of horse training. Their mentors will be our barn lead and Mandy who have extensive knowledge and experience with every aspect of horse care that will be covered in the program. Students also might be attending horse shows with the team.
If you feel that you or your student is ready, please let us know (email@example.com). Enrollment is very limited as we keep this program very personal.
Learning Opportunities Include:
-Assisting with feeding and learn about horse nutrition, understanding why different horses eat different kinds of food and get different kinds of supplements, and how to identify moldy or unhealthy hay.
-Grooming horses extensively and learning to identify different types of cuts, scrapes, fungi, and other ailments of a horse’s skin and hooves. Additionally, they will learn basic equine first aid and how to care for injuries.
-An insider’s look at what really goes into running a barn such as the upkeep of the facilities, pastures, arenas, equipment, and machinery (don’t worry; we keep it safe).
-They will become familiar with the seemingly endless list of things to do before and during a horse show -clipping, bathing, cleaning tack, polo wrapping horses’ legs and loading into a trailer.
-Best of all, they will be helping our barn lead and Mandy with the training of some of our horses. They will help tack these horses up and learn why different tack is used for training versus showing, and they will get on to warm horses up and cool down while receiving training tips from our barn lead and Mandy who will then ride and train the horses while answering questions and giving advice.
